Consider the Theme of Transformation in Metamorphosis and...

Consider the theme of transformation in Metamorphosis and The Yellow Wallpaper. Apart from the very apparent theme of transformation that runs through both stories there are also many underlying themes connected with transformation, not just physical but also mental. Metamorphosis sees Gregor wake up one morning physically transformed overnight into a huge insect, by the description given by Kafka, possibly similar in appearance to a cockroach, although the description given does not allow the reader to make any definite identification. He has been the breadwinner of the family, working as a travelling salesman to keep a roof over the heads of his mother, father and younger sister. This is a service that he has got no thanks or†¦show more content†¦It’s such a long time since he’s eaten anything.† (Kafka 2005) Unlike Gregor the protagonist in The Yellow Wallpaper does have some control over her destiny as she demonstrates. Gilman writes her story as a demonstration of the effects of gender inequality, and the male patriarchal hold over women. The narrator slowly slips into a deeper psychosis the more time she spends alone in the room, however in her studies of the text Catherine Golden questions whether her transformation is simply a sign of her increasingly hallucinatory state or a larger awareness of the limitations of her patriarchal world. This is a very interesting question and one that has many possible answers. The text itself is open to many interpretations and has been received by critics in several different ways. The wallpaper itself morphs gradually the more time the narrator spends looking at it. At first just dim shapes are seen behind the pattern the narrator tells us that â€Å"The dim shapes get clearer every day. It is always the same shape only very numerous. And it is like a woman stooping down and creeping about behind that pattern.† (Gilman 1998) The theme of imprisonment is apparent from the first mention of something behind the pattern as the narrator tells us that â€Å"the faint figure behind seemed to shake the pattern, just as if she wanted to get out.† (Gilman 1998) The feeling of beingShow MoreRelatedFemale Oppression By Emily Dickinson And Charlotte Perkins Gilman1729 Words   |  7 PagesThroughout the history of American Literature there has been a common theme of male oppression. Variables and hypotheses: The variables involved in the research study are the number of restaurants in the city, number of people employed in the restaurants, prices of foods in such restaurants, number of customers in the restaurants. The variables like prices of foods in the restaurants determine the number of customers in the restaurant. Therefore, in this assignment, number of customers in the restaurants is taken as dependent variable and prices of foods as independent variable. The number of restaurant and number of people employed in the restaurant depends on number of people in the restaurant. The hypothesis involved in the study is as follows: H01: The restaurant business in the Sydney city has not made any change. H11: The restaurant business in the Sydney city has made a change. Operational definition and measurements: The problem in this research work is to determine the changes brought about in the restaurant business in the city of Sydney in the current year and the impact of such changes in the economy of the country. The changes brought about in the restaurant business are measured in terms of operating income or profit generated by the restaurants. A comparative study of few years figures will determine the changes brought about in the industry. The prices of foods are calculated in Australian Dollars. The number of peoples employed in the restaurants will be obtained from the owners or workers in the restaurants. The data is collected with the help of questionnaire. Research methodology and design: The research is carried out with the help of primary data. The primary data will be collected from various restaurants of the city. The data is collected with the help of research questionaire. The questionaire is to be given to the people employed in the restaurants. The restaurants in the city can be classified into two types- the restaurants that has been operating for long time like Rockpool bar and new coming restaurants like Hubert, Bolomo . There is a lot of restaurant in city. Restaurant in different parts of the city should be evenly covered. In case of this research study, no constraints are being involved. The data collected will be analyzed with the help of various descriptive statistics measures such as measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion. Regression analysis will help to estimate the dependence among the variables . A time series analysis will help to forecast the future values of the business. Methodology: Data collection: The data collected for the purpose of the research work is primary data. The data about prices of food, number of people working in the restaurants and cafes, number of customers per day in the restaurants, the average profit in the restaurant are available with the help of the questionaire. The city contains a number of restaurants. All the restaurants in the city should be evenly covered. For this purpose the city should be divided into different clusters according to region. The data will be collected with the help of cluster sampling. The regions represent the first stage cluster units and the restaurants in the regions second stage cluster units. This method of data collection is less time consuming and less costly. A better coverage could be achieved with the help of this method of data collection. Data analysis: The data so collected can be analyzed with the help of various data collection methods. The methods of descriptive statistics like the central tendency and dispersion methods can be used to determine the changes brought about in the restaurant and caf business. The differences in the average value and median value will indicate the changes brought about in the current periods. Regression analysis can be done to determine the dependence of various factors among themselves. A linear regression can be fitted by taking prices of food as independent variable and number of customers as dependent variable. A significant value of the regression coefficient will indicate that the prices of food determine the customers. On the other hand a value equivalent to zero will indicate the price of food has no effect on the number of customers. The number of people employed is dependent on number of customers. A separate regression line can be fitted for that. The prospect of the business can be measu red with the help of profit or operating income. A time series analysis of the figures of profit will determine the growth of the business. The future values of the business can be forecasted with the help of time series analysis of the profit figures. Conclusion: In this assignment, the growth of restaurant business in Sydney is being studied. An outline idea about the methods of data collection and analysis of the data is gien in this assignment. The possible interpretation of the results of the analysis is also given in the assignment. This assignment will help the people of the country and concerned authorities to take a deeper look into the restaurant business and take necessary steps to improve the condition of the business. This is one of the leading businesses in the city and employs a lot of people. Improvement of the business will form a major source of income in the city and thereby improving the condition of the economy. Referrences Alonso, A.D. and Krajsic, V., 2014. Academic Integrity free essay sample

This is my first time to get in touch with this new phrase: Academic integrity. To be honest, Students in China including me seldom acquire knowledge concerning subjects like Academic Integrity; so I have to admit that I only have faint sense of Academic Integrity, which is never cheating in examinations. I think it is partly caused by Chinese education system. When I was Child, the only understanding of integrity is to be an honest child or do not lie to your parents and teachers. When I grow up, clearly know that cheating is a really ad thing. Thus think, to some extent, these two rules are more like moral integrity but academic integrity. We can quote words or opinions of others freely and we do not know it is also a kind of plagiarism. Teachers only care about whether we finished our assignments regardless of the way how we complete them; even though we just copy part of article belonging to others. We will write a custom essay sample on Academic Integrity or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page From my perspective, this is also one of the most important reasons why Intellectual property law in China is shaped like a dummy. After I attended the academic integrity lecture on August 7th, I have had a ewe understanding of what is academic integrity. What is more, I have clear answers of three questions as following. The first question: what is the difference between quoting and citing? Quoting is a direct use of what you read and understand from authors articles, which is identical to the original or a narrow segment of the source. They must match the original source verbatim and must be attributed to the original author (Purdue Online Writing lab, 201 3), while people do not need to quote the original source when using citing and there is also no requirements to ad quotation marks however, which is required in quoting sentences. That means citing allows us to quote others own opinions, words, even references but not exact words via paraphrasing with the name of author and the year. The second question: do still require citations when I paraphrase? I thought the answer is no before I took part in this lecture. However, now the answer in my mind has totally changed, because the professor told us that intensive paraphrasing still belongs to plagiarism. Whenever people directly quote or paraphrase, these words and ideas are others not your own works. Therefore o still should use citations signifying the author and year; even you have paraphrased these sentences. The third question: Are we able to cut or paste information online into our papers? Before my answer is Yes, but now know this behavior is definitely Wrong. In China, you have freedom to download any references from the internet without any permission from owners; however, this kind of behavior is definitely banned and unlawful in North American. If you never present any reference to explain what the information is and where it is from, that is absolutely inaccurate. This is also plagiarism.

Notably, about 1-3% of all nosocomial infections are attributed to the surgical site infection for a clean surgery. Therefore most healthcare associated infections which are common in surgical wards pose so many problems to both the infected patients and also to the hospital in general. These may include high mortality rate recordings in the hospital, there is also extended stay in the hospital by the patients which is generally expensive and in some cases, and the patient can even develop a permanent disability. Therefore surgical associated infections are of great concern and strict measures should be taken to ensure that they are minimized. The cases of infection varies with surgeons in concern, hospitals, surgical procedures and mor e so the patient. The infections on the site may be classified into: organs, incisional- can be deep or superficial (Bland, 2006). The most important factor to be installed in the aim of preventing postsurgical site infection is the use of reasonable judgment and the use of proper techniques used by the surgeon and their teams. The only way available to prevent the surgical site infections is by possibly reducing the risk factors that can highly contribute to these infections. The operation room should have high levels of cleanness and it should me maintained at low level of microorganisms if not none. The operation or the surgical team must also maintain high levels of cleanliness during the operation (Schechter-Perkins, 2011). The state of health of the patient before the operation must also be highly considered. The patients must be screened for any possible presence of other health problems before the operation is performed. Presence of any other infection or diseases before the surgery if not taken into account can result to the surgical site not healing well. For example if an operation is performed on a Diabetes patient and yet the condition is not known and hence it has not been put under control, there is a greater possibility that the wound might not heal which poses a health risk to the patient (Tabolt, 2005). Therefore such conditions must be tested for and if present, they must be put into manageable levels to prevent the adverse from happening (Wascher, 2010 ). All the surgical equipments to be used must be new or if that is impossible, for equipments that can be sterilized, they should be well treated to ensure no trces of bacteria are present in them before being used. Operation gowns are another point of concern since they must be disinfected before being provided to the operation client so as to minimize the risk of them having micro organisms during the operation. It is also wise not to remove the hair on the site of operation unless there is a possibility of it messing up with the operation procedures. If the removal of hair must be done then proper care must be taken as it should be removed by being clipped. This is because when the hair in operation site is removed, there is possibilities of exposing it to micro organisms which may latter bring complications after the surgery. For better success, it is advisable the hair be removed immediately when the operation is to commence. It is also advisable for patients to use antimicrobial soaps before the surgery, preferably one night before in order to detach the microorganisms that might be present on the skin (Bennett-Guerrero, 2005 ). Prolonged hospitalization before an operation is a major risk factor that makes the patients susceptible to surgical related infections. When patients have been hospitalized for a long time waiting for an operation, they are exposed to the hospital flora; these in many situations include some airborne organisms that might even have become multi drug resistant. This risk should be brought under control by making sure that all presurgical tests are completed. The exposure to these micro organisms can be reduced by performing the surgery in ambulatory centers as opposed to the hospitals where acute care is provided to sick patients, this implies separation of surgery unit from the other hospital environment. The time spent during and after the surgery should be minimal time possible, this is because that the prolonged duration of surgery, the more the microorganisms gains chances into the open wound. Also the patients should be discharged immediately after an operation for them to have access to home care. Anti microbial agent should be carefully administered and should go in line with the published method of usage since different antimicrobial agents are available for different microorganisms and if a weak one is used it might not lessen the risk. It is also worthy to note that the antimicrobial agents can be administered by the form of intravenous way and if this method is adopted it must be administered in a timely manner such that before the incision takes place, that the tissue can not be infected easily. It should be noted that the therapeutic levels must be maintained throughout the operation and even short duration after the operation (Nicolas, 20007). The proposed incision site must be well propped with strong antiseptic solutions in order to help keeping microorganisms from moving to the open site in the event that the towels used in surgery gets wet. This is a key measure since if the micro organisms are present in the place surrounding the site they may have their access into the wound and as a result, they may cause severe infection to the wound. Proper surgical techniques must be adopted in order to reduce the risk of infection. When the methods used by the surgery team are of high quality, excessive bleeding is controlled, tissue trauma is minimized, there is definite removal of dead body tissues and the chance of foreign bodies entering the body are minimal. It also ensures that blood circulation is controlled and there is total blood oxygenation of blood. Therefore, during the surgery tissues should be handled with maximum care in order to minimize the chances of tissues dying. The surgeon must make sure to use methods that do not cause death of tissues during the operation. For instance there should be minimal use of electrocautely. Closed suctions should be used in order to prevent the tissue fluid from accumulating in the site. This is particularly important to those surgical patients that are obese. The use of permanent suture should be avoided and instead the one that is absorbable be used due to the fact that, it re duces the number of microorganisms that can generate a post operation infection (Keogh, 2008). The rate of infection after the surgery can be minimized by the use of antibiotics. Though antibiotics are significant in reducing the risk, their admissibility depends on the patient in question and the toxic and allergic levels of the drug. The patients must be checked for the case allergic reaction with the antibiotic to be administered. It might be vital for the cost and the number of bacteria resistant to the antibiotics when choosing it. Therefore, antibiotics should be administered in the cases that there is suspected to be high rates of infection and also where if any infection occurs, it can be serious and far put the life of the patient to the risk (Abdel-Haleim, 210). It is therefore wise for the surgery team to be aware that complications can arise and if so they must perform all the preventative measures in order to reduce the infection occurrence. Also the patients must be advised to take care before the operation. They are also supposed to disclose all the health facts concerning their past health experience. All these must be considered if at all rate of infections are to be minimized or brought down to manageable levels. Buy custom Prevention of Surgical Site Infection essay
